Koh Samui Aussie bars

We recently counted a total of 6 Aussie pubs on Samui – or one bar per 36 square kilometres. Take out the island’s central jungle and Koh Samui’s Aussie bar offerings resemble the Northern Territory’s population density: one new friend every few kilometres. Try one or try them all – it’s no great challenge in a week’s holiday. What are the odds you won’t run into your favourite Bruce or Sheila?

Bondi Bar is perhaps the best-established; certainly the most visible with large ads on many island billboards. Locations in Chaweng and Lamai. Others include Sydney Steakhouse, Walkabout Bar & Grill and Andaman Steak and Seafood.

All are variations on a flag-draped G’Day theme: tempting happy hour specials, barbie-heavy menus with Western and Thai options, and ample opportunities to make new friends (or people-watch from behind your beer). Some take their sports more seriously than others – if watching a specific match or game is life & death to you, we advise that you scope out screen sizes and ambient noise in advance.
